These spaces are for lounging and conversation, around a table or increasingly, a firepit. They are often strongly connected to the house, but they don’t have to be.

A gazebo at the far corner of your property becomes not only a wonderful spot to sit and look back toward your home, but a destination that gives depth and visual interest to your yard.

These spaces require more thought and planning than patios of old that were located at the back door. In addition to how they relate to your home’s interior spaces, skill is required in locating them in relation to other exterior areas such as dining and recreation. They need to be convenient to both, while maintaining a distinct, separate character. The best spaces enjoy shelter from the sun, cooling breezes, are comfortably furnished and often enjoy the sound of a water feature.
