The owner of this Great Hills residence handed us a challenge: make my Tuscan-villa inspired home look natural on this wooded, sloped site.
Peeking over the boxwood hedge, down into the front court. Note the architectural rhythm of the loggia extended out to form the courtyard paving.

Walls designed to match the architecture come out to embrace the front court, openings are punctuated by piers topped with bold roofing-tile caps.

Plantings soften the space.

View from the front door, paving bands link court walls to house, with the brick fields creating a rich texture.

Rear veranda’s paving matches outdoor terraces, linking house to garden.

Looking down from pool gates into pool area.

From above the rear terrace paving resembles grouped Persian carpets.

Looking back toward the house. Flanking the pool are dressing rooms and an outdoor kitchen, tucked into the grade and invisible from the house.

Loose plantings soften the hardscape’s strong symmetry.
